A practical teacher guide for preparing to support a learner with CHARGE Syndrome.
This resource began with a real teacher request.
A teacher preparing to welcome her first learner with CHARGE Syndrome wanted to feel better informed before her initial meeting. Although specialist support, was involved, she wanted some background knowledge of her own so she could go into those early conversations with a stronger understanding of the learner and their possible needs.
That request led to the Understanding CHARGE Syndrome: A Teacher Guide.
We have chosen to make this guide freely available as a special release. While our larger teacher guides and resources will not usually be offered free of charge, this resource provides an example of the kind of practical, teacher-focused material we can create in response to genuine classroom needs.
This guide provides general information for educators and is intended to complement, not replace, individualised advice from the learner, their whānau and the specialist professionals supporting them.
Have an inclusive education resource you wish existed?
Behind the scenes, we are gradually developing our Inclusive Education collection.
We are taking our time with this area deliberately. Inclusive education resources need to be more than attractive and easy to use. They need to be accurate, respectful and genuinely useful.
Our aim is to ground resources in current research and reputable guidance, and, where appropriate, seek input from relevant organisations, agencies and people with specialist knowledge before resources are released.
Inclusive Education resources are coming - carefully, thoughtfully and with teachers and learners at the centre.
